We are living in an ever-changing world marked by dynamic shifts in different aspects of technology. We call it the fourth industrial revolution. While the first industrial revolution ushered in mechanization, there have been tremendous metamorphosis all geared towards making human life experience much easier. AI and Machine Learning
Artificial intelligence refers to the development of computer systems and applications that can perform the tasks that require human intelligence. We have seen this in real life computer applications that can recognize speech and visual perception like the smart home devices among others. Companies use artificial intelligence to improve customer experience and to streamline business operations.
We have also seen the development of Humanoid Robots with Emotions, and that is how companies would, going into the future, perfect the art of using these humanoid robots to carry on their operations. We have also seen the completely autonomous car concepts, and this is what the future holds for artificial intelligence and machine learning.
Machine learning works hand in hand with artificial intelligence as its subset. It provides the system the ability to learn automatically and to improve from the experience without being explicitly programmed.

Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR)
What is the difference between virtual and augmented reality? These are the latest trends that have transformed human life experience of the real world versus digital environment.
Virtual Reality (VR) immerses the user into experiences that are out of the physical world while Augmented Reality (AR) overlays the objects on the real-world environment using cameras and smartphones. Examples of Augmented Reality include Google Pixels Star Wars Stickers, Nintendo’s Pokemon Go App, and U.S Army Tactical Augmented Reality. VR has been seen in devices such as Google Cardboard and HTC Vive among others.
I can say blockchain is a democratized system of time-stamped digital transactions that happen across many computers thus immutable or cannot be altered. There is no central authority in this space unlike in the real currency where there is centralized control and authority. Talking of blockchain as one of the latest technology trends, we have seen emergence of cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin being the major. Other cryptocurrencies include Ethereum, Bitcoin cash, XRP, and Altcoins among others. We don’t know what lies ahead of this.
Internet of Things (IoT)
In simple terms, IoT refers to connected objects that are able to collect and to exchange data. IoT is one of the latest trends in technology and has been applied in consumer devices such as smart TVs, commercial security systems, smart speakers, toys, and in smart city technologies.
In edge computing, data is not transmitted to the data center but instead processed by a local computer, server or device. This empowers mobile computing and IoT technologies. In other words, it is an open IT infrastructure where the processing power is decentralized. Edge computing tries to solve some of the cloud computing problems hence eliminating lag time in data processing. With edge computing, smart devices and applications respond to data almost instantaneously. This makes large data transfer efficient as they are being tapped near the source.
Robotic Process Automation (RPA)
We have seen the emergence of robotic devices with the capability to perform human tasks. RPA uses the software program with artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities to do some routine tasks such as call center operations to handle customer queries, and scheduling systems just to mention a few.
